Bio

Alexa Rae Gordon is a Visual Artist currently based in New York City. Alexa’s work explores textiles, painting, and interactive installation. Her pieces aim to highlight sustainability through materiality, collection, color, and personal narrative. Alexa received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan in 2019.

Growing up in a small rural town within a mile of one of Pennsylvania’s largest landfills, she developed a firsthand understanding of the direct environmental and socioeconomic consequences that waste culture has on a community.

Alexa’s studio practice is concerned with conscious consumption through the use of personal reclaimed fabrics and materials, often stitched in organized grids by hand or machine. Professionally trained first as a painter, she approaches creating all her works with a complex understanding of color relationships and visual organization.
